Ask a Question

'Theatre in the Park' gouache on art paper, French School (circa 1930s, signature unknown). A charming vignette of costumed performers in an open air theatre delights the viewer. There is something akin to the work of Marc Chagall in this depiction. Perhaps it is the dreamlike imagery and the colour palette used by the artist. We can say for certain that it transports the viewer to a better place and would cheer up a needy niche in any home or workspace. Overall, the piece is in good condition having been recently cleaned by an art restoration specialist. The work has been newly framed and is glazed with anti-reflective glass. The work is signed in the upper left hand however the handwriting is undecipherable. It was acquired in the South of France near Montpellier. Upon request a video of the piece may be provided.
